Terms of use

Last updated 2 November 2026

MapWorld is a free hobby service. By using it, from inside VRChat or on this website, you agree to these terms.

No warranty

MapWorld is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. It may be slow, unavailable, changed or switched off at any time, with or without notice. To the extent the law allows, the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using it or from being unable to use it.

Map data is approximate

Tiles are built automatically from open data that can be out of date, incomplete or wrong. Ground heights, buildings and colours are simplified, and some places are drawn from coarse worldwide data rather than detailed local surveys. Geocoding can pick the wrong place. Don't rely on MapWorld for navigation, safety, property, legal or any other real-world decision.

Open data, licences and attribution

The terrain, imagery and buildings come from third parties under their own open licences. They include OpenStreetMap contributors and Overture Maps (Open Database Licence), the Copernicus elevation model, and national mapping and survey agencies under licences such as Creative Commons Attribution, Licence Ouverte, Datenlizenz Deutschland and public domain terms. Those owners keep their rights.

Each destination video credits its sources in the colour panel. A credits page listing every source and its licence will be added to this site. If you reuse anything taken from MapWorld's videos, you are responsible for following the licences of the data in it, including share-alike terms where they apply.

Acceptable use

  • Use MapWorld through the VRChat world or for ordinary personal viewing.
  • Don't scrape or bulk-download the /v3/ video endpoints with scripts, bots or other automated tools, or use them to build a dataset.
  • Rate limits apply. Don't try to get around them, for example by spreading requests across many addresses.
  • Don't use searches to harass people or to look up a private person's home.
  • Don't try to disrupt the service or reach parts of it that aren't public.

Requests that break these terms may be blocked without notice.
